Thoughts on ‘Is it Over Now?’ ?

I love it! I was very troubled when I first heard it (it’s a troubling story!) so it took some time but it’s really grown on me. It’s so powerful. I love that it’s the dark flip side to songs like Style or Blank Space—which have layers to them and are truthful but are also soooo cool and Chill-Presenting, if that’s the word I want. Taylor is never Chill(TM) (a blessing) but 1989 was the era where that’s what she was kind of presenting to the public. The sadness and reflection are still present in the standard album itself —I’m always so haunted by something I read at the time about how the album starts with putting broken hearts in a drawer and then ends with Clean, the broken heart did not stay hidden for long—but this is REALLY the stuff she was holding back in telling the story. And to see the messiness, the hurt, the sadness, every detail stored up and memorized and saved, is so powerful. Because it’s always there every time.

Also I personally am obsessed with Taylor expressing the sentiment of “did you THINK I DIDN’t SEE—-” in any of her songs. She ALWAYS sees!!! She’s always watching.

So yeah.

it’s so funny to me that shadow is the memed upon edgelord of the sonic cast bc his game was edgelordish like. he as a character Isn’t an edgelord- that is, someone Trying to be extremely edgy to be cool, he’s more just like… a traumatised teenager. he Does want to be seen as cool but he doesn’t do that by trying to come across as dark and tortured he’s just suicidally depressed and people pick up on it while what he does to try and seem cool is like. beating the crap out of people mostly. which means the sonic villain in the game Before shadow the hedgehog who very canonically is trying to look cool by being dark and edgy gets ignored despite like. dressing up as an emo girl version of hatsune miku and trying her absolute best to sound like a jrpg villain and dropping biblical references to seem cool. like shadow the hedgehog the game was so funnily edgy it somehow made people forget the Actual emo girl 2000s deviant art account vibes neo metal sonic actually canonically had. like if anyone’s all edge and no point it’s her.
